Our Mission

Our mission is to provide non-judgmental, compassionate care for obesity as a chronic medical disease while advocating for societal change to make treatment more affordable, accessible, and acceptable for all.

Core Values/Aims

1.

Obesity is a chronic medical disease that should be treated with patient-centred care, free from weight bias/stigma.

2.

We need to change society’s perspective of obesity.
We also need to change the viewpoints of fellow healthcare professionals and policymakers

3.

Obesity treatment needs to be more affordable, accessible, and acceptable for everyone. To achieve this,

Obesity medications needs to be funded, at least partially by PHARMAC.

Bariatric surgery needs to be more widely accessible.

Our Maori/Pasifika population needs to have equitable access to obesity treatment.

Patient Advocacy

At Medical Weight Solutions, we would like to support you to form a patient advocacy group, to create a voice for patients suffering from obesity. We want to share our core values and our mission with our patients to reach a common goal - affordable and accessible obesity treatment for everyone.

Obesity is an under-recognised disease by doctors and policy-makers. It is thought that only 1-2% of patients suffering with obesity receive treatment with medications/bariatric surgery. If you compare this with diabetes, almost 100% of patients with diabetes would be offered treatment. We need to seek more attention and funding for the treatment of obesity. We need change in New Zealand. As a group of patients, you too can make the difference.
